Unfortunately, they may bring a tear to the eye when cutting them! Apparently chilling them first or wearing googles may help with this. I did see one chef cut an onion whilst looking the other way. I'm sure if he'd have cut his hand that would've brought a tear to the eye as well, so I couldn't possibly recommend this method!
